My segment will introduce participants to a variety of D.I.Y. projects using Chalk Board Paint that can beautify any surface. Inexpensive finds from the dollar store, existing furniture, scrape wood, thrifty finds and a variety of surfaces are used for the projects. Painted surfaces can create accent walls, signage or areas that can serve as instructional zones.

Mindful creativity is essential to create a big impact.

The Year in Review 2012

It has been a very busy year but my dedication to the concept of Dollar Daze and Thrifty Finds

is still strong.  Reinvention serves as the starting point in the development of instructional strategies that engage students in active learning and critical thinking.

California and More

This session will demonstrate how the teacher librarian and classroom teacher can repurpose a number finds to create teaching activities that engage student thinking, creativity and reflection. Wow, what a reception! Thank you for interest in my Exploratorium Presentation --- "It's In The Bag".

It’s in the Bag! is a “novel” way to successfully engage students in research and learning. A variety of dollar store and thrifty finds are used to develop activities around a novel packaged in a themed bag for student access. Mindful imagination + reinvention guides the development of the activities to create a “novel” way for students to construct knowledge and understanding. This Exploratorium will give participants an opportunity to examine the bags. Leave with renewed enthusiasm and armed with specific ideas and strategies that can be readily adapted to suit literacy and program requirements.
